Go with the Glow at Rotherham's Christmas kick-off this week

HOMETOWN girl Lauren Housley will help kick off Christmas in Rotherham town centre this week at an event also showcasing the stars of this year’s panto, a blast of brass and a glow-in-the-dark spectacular.

The Rotherham Christmas Lights Switch-on will take place in All Saints’ Square from 5.30pm to 7pm on Thursday.

Much-travelled folk singer Lauren (below), who set up her own recording studio in the town centre earlier this year, will take to the stage in the shadow of the Minsters to perform, as will the Rotherham Youth Choir, who made their Switch-on debut last year.

The festivities will also star the Halo Glow Show, an illuminated dance and juggling act promising a “human kaleidoscope finale”, plus Leeds-based Hyde Park Brass.

There’s also the chance to see the cast of Sleeping Beauty, this winter’s Rotherham Civic pantomime, and pick up a bargain or two at a festive gift market.

The big switch-on takes place at 6.30pm, with the Mayor and Mayoress of Rotherham, Cllrs Jenny Andrews and Jeanette Mallinder doing the honours.
