Go wild with a walk at Centenary Riverside

NATURE lovers are being invited to take a walk on the wild side around two of Rotherham’s wildlife havens.

Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust is holding guided walks around Centenary Riverside, the area’s newest nature reserve, and Blackburn Meadows.

Experts from the trust and from Rotherham and District Ornithologists will be on hand to point out the birds which have started to colonise Centenary Riverside, 4.5 hectares of wetland habitat, reclaimed from the site of an old steel works.

Wetland species which have settled there include lapwings, tufted ducks, and teal.

A three-hour guided walk will start at 9am on Saturday at the Centenary Riverside Nature Park from Riverside Way, off the A6178, and will tour the reserve before heading to Blackburn Meadows.

And a lunchtime stroll will be held at Centenary Riverside on 23 March between 12pm and 2pm.
