Gillian’s pride in team effort

STARS of the stage and studio showed their pride in healthcare superheroes with a stirring version of Proud Mary in aid of the NHS.

Showbiz stalwart Gillian Banks enlisted dance and singing tutors to run her charges through online rehearsals for the ensemble effort in aid of the NHS.

More than 70 performers young and rather older honed their skills through free “remote” classes twice a day for nine days before recording and filming their performances.

Gillian explained: “All who had registered had access to our backing track with a tutorial of the dance so they could practise, record themselves and send their film to our media company, where the video was edited.

“The performance was shown by live stream last Thursday, when people could donate on the Gillian Banks Theatre School NHS justgiving donation page (at https://tinyurl.com/GBProudMary).”

She added: “I am so proud of the teachers giving their services free of charge and to our wonderful supportive patrons, Nick and Marie Cragg — Nick is also known as Spider-Man from Wickersley, as you can see in the clip.

“We are so proud of everyone who took part in the event and would like to thank all who supported our fundraising spectacular for our Rotherham NHS Superheroes, which has raised more than £1,300.”

Members of the Gillian Banks Theatre School are working on a follow-up routine, which will be aired on the school’s Facebook page on June 8, with all donations earmarked for Rotherham Hospice and Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.
