Film showings to boost Goldthorpe’s spirit

VOLUNTEERS in a village rocked by bad publicity from a national TV are out to build community spirit with a series of film showings.

The Dearne Community Cinema based at Goldthorpe’s Dearne ALC will screen The Grand Budapest Hotel at 7pm on April 15 and a “singalong” version of The Lion King at 11.30am on April 18.

Volunteer Ernie Gadsby called on people from the town to embrace the community project in the wake of the Britain’s Benefit Tenants TV show, which left them upset at the area’s rundown portrayal.

He said: “People are no doubt aware of the feeling of the community In Goldthorpe after the recent tv documentary.

“We hope these films will help bring the community together and show most of us do care.

“Anyone that has ever attended the cinema comes away and says they enjoyed it and we need to spread the word.”

Tickets are £3 for adults, £2.50 for OAPs and children and £10 for a family of four and can be reserved by calling 01709 892565 or 07810 335277 or bought on the door.
