Creators of a Facebook swap shop have been so impressed with the community spirit it has fostered that they have been inspired to organise a  charity fund-raising event.

Dave Atter (46), of Goosebutt Court, Parkgate, recently set up a group on Facebook called Rotherham, Swaps, Wanted, Offered, which allows members to donate, offer and swap items they no longer use—the only rule being that no money is allowed to change hands.

The success of the group has encouraged Dave and the group administrators, including his wife and best friend, to organise a fund-raising event for the Children’s Ward and Special Care Baby Unit at Rotherham District General Hospital.

The event will take place tomorrow at the Monkwood public house, Rawmarsh, starting at 10am with a two-hour sponsored walk, followed by a children’s disco and bouncy castle, a tombola and a raffle with the top prize of a laptop worth £400.

Dave said: “It is all because of the spirit and camaraderie the group has created.”
