Evening of weird and wonderful music at Grimm and Co

CELEBRATED folk musicians will be in town next month for a special one-off gig.

Richard Dawson (pictured) and James Ewan Tait will be performing at Grimm and Co in Doncaster Gate at 7pm on March 15.

The pair of players will paint pictures with words and music during their intimate show at the pub-turned-story centre, where children’s imaginations are harnessed into writing their own tales.

Richard’s last album, 2017’s Peasant, was named one of the top ten albums of the year by The Guardian and was crowned album of the year by The Quietus.

Peasant was inspired by the goings-on in an ancient Anglo-Saxon kingdom, a land that Richard invokes through songs such as Ogre, Shapeshifter and Herald.

His previous work has been inspired by subject matter as diverse as a disastrous Year 7 school trip to Featherstone Castle, and materials found in the depths of the Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums.

Described as experimental, psychedelic folk, Richard’s music is inspired by age-old balladry.

A spokeswoman for Grimm and Co said: “We are so excited that he has offered to play at Grimm and Co for what promises to be an incredibly special one-off event.”

Support will be provided by self-professed “weirdo crooner” James Ewan Tait, who released his debut EP Everything, Loads, All The Time, Forever in 2017.

Tickets are priced at £12 for adults and £10 for under-16s. They include refreshments and a donation from each will go to support Grimm and Co.
