Eager singer Matthew Roddis joins the crew on board cruise ship

A RISING musical theatre star will be trying out his sea legs later this month after landing a dream spot on a cruise ship.

Matthew Roddis (pictured), a former Rotherham College pupil, will sail out to sea on the Marella Dream as part of Yorkshire-based Peel Entertainment’s crew of performers.

The full on-board entertainment team, comprising 12 accomplished singers and dancers drawn from all over Europe, will present an itinerary of 11 shows — performed twice-nightly on a consecutive two-week rotation — throughout a ten-month tour of the Canary Islands and the Mediterranean.

Matthew performs several solos, including Soul Man and Play That Funky Music in the show Committed to Brothers Blue.

He was notably seen by Rotherham audiences treading the boards of the Civic Theatre two years ago when he joined the cast of Priscilla Queen of the Desert: The Musical — taking on a challenging 25 costume changes.

“This will be my first cruise with Marella, so I am incredibly excited,” said Matthew.

“The whole process has been really enjoyable from the auditions at Pineapple Dance Studios in London to the last ten weeks where myself and the team have lived and worked together 24/7 to get all the shows ready.

“It’s been very demanding but I have enjoyed every minute and can't wait to become part of the Marella team.”
