Dummy joins the cast of Ben Hur for new Phoenix Players show next week

We appealed through our pages and website for a static cast member to feature as a statue in the play at Rotherham Civic Theatre — and grateful Phoenix found what they were looking for.

ROTHERHAM drama group The Phoenix Players — on stage next week with the epic comedy Ben Hur — have thanked readers who answered their call for a shop dummy to appear on stage.

Chairman Neil Mather said: “It’s amazing what people have lurking in sheds.

“Many thanks to the person who came forward, but doesn’t want to be named,  for the loan of their dummy. We will treat her well.”

In a touch of sadness, two members of the four-strong cast, George Glasby and Brandon Mullins, will be leaving the Players after Ben Hur to pursue acting degrees.

“Remember where you saw them first,” said Neil. “Best of luck for the future, guys.”

Ben Hur is at the Civic from Monday to Friday next week.

Tickets are priced at £9.50 from the box office on 01709 823621, at www.rotherhamtheatres.co.uk and on the door.
