Dream Britain’s Got Talent debut for “Darlings”

Alexandra Hans (31), pictured, was one of the D-Day Darlings who wowed judges and the audience on ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent with their rendition of wartime classic We’ll Meet Again.

The nine-member ensemble dressed in military outfits and performed in front of images from the war years.

Alexandra, of Rawmarsh Hill, Parkgate, has been a member of the decade-old group for four years.

She said she had been overwhelmed by the positive response to their performance and had been told the group were the bookmakers’ joint favourite to take the top prize in the contest.

Alexandra, who runs The Voice Academy in Parkgate, said: “It was about honouring our heroes and keeping their memories alive.

“The audience response was very very positive. 

“The judges’ comments were really good as well. We got four ‘yeses’.

“We didn’t expect it to have the impact it did. 

“It’s all been a bit of a whirlwind.”

The D-Day Darlings are based in the Midlands and were set up by Katie Ashby a decade ago.

The group are supported by Dame Vera Lynn and the Royal British Legion, for whom they have raised funds.

They make regular appearances at wartime-themed events and veterans’ parties.

Alexandra said the group wants to go as far in the Britain’s Got Talent competition as possible - hopefully reaching the final.

She said: “It would be great to perform at the Royal Variety Performance before the Queen.

“But the experience so far has been amazing.”

Alexandra said that she hoped her Britain’s Got Talent story would inspire youngsters at The Voice Academy to strive for their own success.
