Do you remember Rotherham's Charade nightclub?

A HISTORY enthusiast is seeking the help of the public to put together a book about a former Rotherham nightclub.

Keith Brisland (57), of Herringthorpe Avenue, has launched a project to collect as many stories, pictures and facts about The Charade nightclub which was based at the Stag roundabout during the 1960s, 70s and 80s.

Before opening as a nightclub, the venue was a jazz club and while operating as The Charade, was also home to a Saturday club for 13 to 16 year olds. It is now occupied by a dance school.

Keith has already interviewed The Charade owner Dave Allen about his part in the nightclub.

And he said that he was hopeful that members of the public would know more about the venue and share their memories with him.

He said: “I’m interested in hearing from staff, DJs, dancers or anyone who went to the night club.

“I’m also interested in any information about it when it was a jazz club and would like to hear from any bands who played there.

“I’d like to interview people if possible and collect all the information together with the aim of turning it into a book.

“I’m sure people have some great stories about their time at the club.”

The Charade was the first of Mr Allen’s many discotheques, which also included Josephine’s in Sheffield.

Keith added: “I’ve seen a number of books about other nightclubs and I think there would be some real interest in The Charade.

“I’ve set up a Facebook site called Charade Nightclub Rotherham and hope the article will trigger a response.”
