DISTRICT NEWS: Treeton

TREETON COMMUNITY CENTRE: Treeton Community Centre on Pit Lane has a large Hall and other rooms which are available for hire. Events are at the moment are, Monday, Youth Club and Scouts. Wednesday, Beavers, Mattafit and Senior Keep Fit. Every Thursday between 2-4pm, there will be a drop in service where council tenants can get advice about benefits, the Police will also be in attendance, and there is also Youth Club, Keep fit, Table Tennis and computer classes. And on second Thursday of the month, there is a Luncheon club 12 to 2pm. The 3rd Friday of every month is Country and Western evening. Saturday is Diddi kicks football and there is live Country Music and Line Dancing on last Saturday of the month. There are occasional Table Top sales. CITIZENS ADVICE BUREAU: On Thursday 2-6pm and Friday 9.30-11.30am at the Community Centre, there is an Independent Advice Surgery were a representative from the Citizen’s Advice Bureau will be available to offer up-to-date information and advice, It is necessary to book an appointment for this service. TREETON LIBRARY: The library is held at Treeton Baptist Church and is open every Tuesday morning from 9.30-12.30 to exchange books and jigsaws and refreshments are served. During school holidays ‘Bookworms’ activity classes are held for the children. There is also a Friendship Lunch held on the last Tuesday of each month except for December.  

PCSO SURGERY: Treeton Parish Council continue to run their surgery every Thursday morning, between 10.15 -11.15am in Treeton Reading Rooms, for any residents with problems relating to anti-social behaviour,  crime and the environment. The meetings are attended by the local Police, when available.  There will also be tea and coffee available.

HEARING AID SUPPORT SERVICE DROP-IN CENTRE: Due to cuts in funding Action on Hearing Loss has unfortunately had to close the service offered to residents at the Treeton Reading Room with immediate effect. The nearest alternative venue is Brinsworth Community rooms, behind what was the community centre on the 4th Tuesday of the month 1-2pm.

TREETON LADIES GROUP: Treeton Ladies Group meet on the second Tuesday of each month at Treeton Baptist church at 7.15pm. There are speakers on various subjects, craft demonstrations and trips out.  For further details, contact Carole Robinson on 0114 2694100, or just come along, all new members are welcome.  

ST HELEN’S CHURCH: St Helen’s Church is part of the Rivers Team of churches. Services are normally held on Sunday afternoons at 3.30pm. These include All Age, Communion and Family worship. The service last week was led by Denise and Revd. ST HELEN’S CHURCH COFFEE POT: All are welcome to our weekly Coffee Morning every Thursday 10am-12 -noon at St Helen Church. This is followed by a short service finishing at 12.30pm.

TREETON BAPTIST CHURCH: Services are usually held at 10.45 on Sunday morning with Communion on the first Sunday of the month. Last week’s service, was led by Gordon Hawley, who also Preached. The church also provides Infant and Child dedications. Weddings and Wedding Vow renewals. FRIEND’S OF ST HELEN’S CHURCH HERITAGE TRUST: Friends of St Helen’s Church, work with the church to give practical support to the eleventh century Grade 1 listed building. The Trust continues to and is dedicated to supporting the Ancient Building. New members are very welcome and annual subs are just £3pp. anyone wishing to join please contact Wendy Foers, John Swift or Carole Robinson (contact details above).

TREETON PARISH COUNCIL: At a recent meeting of Treeton Parish Council, the Chair was Terry Adair, Councillors attending were G Cooper, A Goy, Eve Levin, J Swift, and D Whysall. Also C Brown Clerk and Borough Cllr B Walsh.  The Chairman welcomed Eve Levin, the new Parish Councillor. In Matters arising it was reported that the farmer had been approached about boulders to deter 4x4 vehicles. But he was unable to help at the time, but said he will help when he can. In Correspondence received, Janice Curran sent details of the Severn Trent Community Fund, this is about grants available to Charities and Community Groups over the next 5 weeks, and she also sent details of a self-harm awareness course for parents and carers. SYPTE sent details of service changes effective from January. Keith Haynes of Treeton Memorial Community Centre and Playing Fields Charity sent an email notifying of their plans for Washfield Lane including their plan to apply to Waverley Community Council for a grant of £250,000. An email was received from Peak and Northern Footpath Society, about the history of the footpaths at Flatts Farm, they also said that they would like to apply for a short section of this to be legally recorded and a requested that this be put in the Parish newsletter. It was resolved that this should be allowed. An email was received from Shaun McKie asking about current vacancies for Parish Councillors and a meeting will be arranged to discuss this. Under Borough Councillors Report, Cllr Walsh said that a new Housing Champion was currently being recruited. He also reported on the work being done to eliminate fly-tipping in the area. Under Youth Club, The Chairman said that numbers were still being maintained, and that SJD were now employing four apprentices to train through the Youth Club. Under Community Centre the Chairman said and that booking were doing well that the centre was progressing and plans were in place to possibly extend the building. Under Chairman’s review he reported that work had now started on the new Jones Development. He also mentioned the condition of the roads. He hoped that the forthcoming improvements would solve all the problems. Under Any Other Urgent Business the chairman said that a local farmer had been asked if he could find a home for some sand bags and he was happy with the proposal. The Clerk outlined then accounts to date and produced a copy of the cash book. He also produced a his estimate for the precept for 2021/ The date of the next meeting is Monday 24th February at 7pm
