DISTRICT NEWS: Treeton

TREETON COMMUNITY CENTRE: Treeton Community Centre on Pit Lane has a large Hall and other rooms which are available for hire. Events are at the moment are, Monday, Youth Club and Scouts. Wednesday, Beavers, Mattafit and Senior Keep Fit. Every Thursday between 2 and 4pm, there will be a drop in service where council tenants can get advice about benefits, the Police will also be in attendance, and there is also Youth Club, Keep fit, Table Tennis and computer classes. And on second Thursday of the month, there is a Luncheon club 12 to 2pm. The 3rd Friday of every month is Country and Western evening. Saturday is Diddi kicks football and there is live Country Music and Line Dancing on last Saturday of the month. There are occasional Table Top sales. CITIZENS ADVICE BUREAU: On Thursday 2-6pm and Friday 9.30 to 11.30am at the Community Centre, there is an Independent Advice Surgery were a representative from the Citizen’s Advice Bureau will be available to offer up-to-date information and advice, It is necessary to book an appointment for this service. TREETON LIBRARY: The library is held at Treeton Baptist Church and is open every Tuesday morning from 9.30-12.30 to exchange books and jigsaws and refreshments are served. During school holidays ‘Bookworms’ activity classes are held for the children. There is also a Friendship Lunch held on the last Tuesday of each month except for December.

PCSO SURGERY: Treeton Parish Council continue to run their surgery every Thursday morning, between 10.15-11.15am in Treeton Reading Rooms, for any residents with problems relating to anti-social behaviour,  crime and the environment. The meetings are attended by the local Police, when available.  There will also be tea and coffee available.

HEARING AID SUPPORT SERVICE DROP-IN CENTRE: Due to cuts in funding Action on Hearing Loss has unfortunately had to close the service offered to residents at the Treeton Reading Room with immediate effect. The nearest alternative venue is Brinsworth Community rooms, behind what was the community centre on the 4th Tuesday of the month 1-2pm.

TREETON LADIES GROUP: Treeton Ladies Group meet on the second Tuesday of each month at Treeton Baptist church at 7.15pm. There are speakers on various subjects, craft demonstrations and trips out.  For further details, contact Carole Robinson on 0114 2694100, or just come along, all new members are welcome.

ST HELEN’S CHURCH: St Helen’s Church is part of the Rivers Team of churches. Services are normally held on Sunday afternoons at 3.30pm. These include All Age, Communion and Family worship. The service last week was cancelled due to bad weather, for further information or help about Baptisms or Weddings or to speak to a member of the clergy in confidence, please visit ‘Meeting Point’ at St Andrew’s Centre Brinsworth on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month between 6.30-7.30pm or ring the Team Office on 01709 361630.  

ST HELEN’S CHURCH COFFEE POT: All are welcome to our weekly Coffee Morning every Thursday 10am to 12 noon at St Helen church. This is followed by a short service finishing at 12.30pm.

TREETON BAPTIST CHURCH: Services are usually held at 10.45 on Sunday morning with Communion on the first Sunday of the month. At last week’s service, Maureen Hudson led the worship and Jenny Blake gave a talk .The church also provides Infant and Child dedications. Weddings and Wedding Vow renewals. FRIEND’S OF ST HELEN’S CHURCH HERITAGE TRUST: Friends of St Helen’s church, work with the church to give practical support to the eleventh century Grade 1 listed building. The Trust continues to and is dedicated to supporting the Ancient Building.
