Diabetes sufferers can meet the experts

DIABETES will be debated at a meeting where the public can quiz medical experts next week.

Hospital consultant Dr Ahmed Hafiz will talk about the topic during the Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust’s second Community Health Meeting at Springwell Gardens Community Centre in Eastwood at 12.30pm on Tuesday. (31)

Diabetes services centre Manager, Claire Keightley said: “Around 12,500 people in Rotherham already have diabetes and with 23,000 adults in the local area having a Body Mass Index (BMI) of above 30, putting them at risk of developing type 2 diabetes, the number of people in the town living with diabetes is set to rise rapidly in the coming years.

“It is imperative that health education remains high on our agenda so we can support those living with, or at risk of developing diabetes in the future.”

Symptoms of diabetes include increased thirst and urination, extra tiredness, weight lost and blurred vision.
