Herringthorpe resident Dean is pictured here with the leaping porpoise, after taking the top spot in his crafty category.

Lilian Shears — former Dinnington Comprehensive art technician and now vice-chair of RotherFed — taught a mosaic course at Springwell Gardens Community Centre.

She said: “The course was part of a skill-sharing session we hold every week. Dean took part in our course.

“One week, he asked if he could take his work to Rotherham Show — he already had all of the paperwork.

“I went around the show on the Saturday and saw that he had taken first place. I was really chuffed for him.”

Dean took home a certificate and a £5 cash prize.
