D-Day anniversary to be marked with karaoke in Swinton

COMMEMORATIONS to mark the 75th anniversary of D-Day next week will include a wartime karaoke competition in Swinton.

The Royal British Legion are holding a number of events to mark the heroics of June 6, 1944, across the country.

And the the Mexborough, Swinton and Kilnhurst branch of the Legion will be marking the milestone in style on Saturday, June 8, with an evening of music in Swinton from 7.30pm.

Proceeds will go to the Poppy Appeal and there will be prizes of up to £100 for the best singer in 40s attire and prizes of £25 for the best 40s-style male and female guests.

Entrants will be encouraged to take on songs from the 1930s and 1940s and judges will pick their winners.

Entry to the event is £2, which will include a free commemorative poppy pin.
