Competition aims to put disabled artists in the frame for fame

A NEW art competition is looking to put new talent in the frame and celebrate the work of disabled artists.

ArtWorks South Yorkshire is calling for artists with disabilities to join the international contest and exhibition.

Work will go on show March and May and turn the spotlight on the work of artists with learning disabilities across the globe.

The showcase will be held online to ensure as many people as possible can “visit”.

It will also be put on display at Wentworth Woodhouse in June, alongside a series of talks “meet the artist” sessions and creative workshops.

The ArtWorks Together International Disability Arts Competition is open to all artists (including people working as a group) who have any form of learning disability.

Submissions can include painting, drawing, sculpture, digital art, animation, sound art and photography.

ArtWorks directors Liz Carrington and Kayleigh Cruickshank said: “We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to participate fully in arts and culture.

“We hope to raise the aspirations of artists with learning disabilities that want to work in the arts and cultural sector, and encourage ambition and talent to freely thrive through this opportunity to showcase their artwork through our exhibition.

Visit https://www.artworkstogether.co.uk/submit for more details and to submit your work. Entrants must be 16 or over and the deadline for submission is February 12.
