Competition a reason for rhyme!

CREATIVE folk who living or working in Rotherham are being urged to get their pens out for a poetry and short story competition.

Rotherham Arts Mike Haywood Creative Writing Competition—held once every two years in memory of local poet Mike Haywood—is open to anyone living, working or studying within 35 miles of Rotherham town and the deadline for entries for this year’s competition is November 1.

There are two categories, poetry to a maximum of 40 lines and short stories of between 1,800 and 2,000 words and there is a first prize of £75 in each category as well as two runner-up prizes of £50.

The cost per entry is £2 or three for £3, with a maximum of three entries per category.

Entry forms and rules are available from some libraries or by sending a stamped, addressed envelope to the competition organiser Graham Rippon at 19, Godric Drive,

Brinsworth, Rotherham S60 5AN.
