Comedy classic comes to the Civic

CLASSIC TV sitcom Last of the Summer Wine will be given the stage treatment at the Civic next week.

Phoenix Players, dab hands with a broad comedy, are in rehearsal for the stage version of the long-running BBC show, which filled our screens from 1973 to 2010.

Director Neil Mather said: “This is a premiere of this show at Rotherham Civic.

“It was written as a stage play and is a fitting tribute to a TV show that ran for 37 years.

“We are into our 75th year now and wanted something to reflect a long running local institution — so why not give Britain's longest running comedy a go?”

Last of the Summer Wine runs from next Monday to Friday, April 25 to 29.

Tickets priced at £9.50 are available from the Civic box office and Civic website.
