Classic music in 15th century church

CLASSICAL favourites and modern-day hits from the world of film and television will feature in an orchestral concert in an idyllic 15th century church.

Past and present students from the Rotherham Youth Orchestra are preparing to put seats in pews for the one-off concert at Letwell St Peter’s Church next Sunday (14).

Organisers say the programme for the event should “suit all tastes” with the talented young musicians performing everything from light classical favourites to traditional folk melodies, and the theme from the popular fantasy TV series Game of Thrones.

The historic church is one of only a few buildings in Rotherham credited with a rare Grade II listing.

Concert co-organiser, Anthea France, said: “It’s the perfect setting for a summer concert.

“The acoustics are absolutely wonderful and the intimate atmosphere adds that extra dimension.”

The event gets underway at 3pm and a complimentary drink during the interval is included in the £5 ticket price.

Anthea added: “There are so many talented young musicians in Rotherham, and it promises to be a very special afternoon.

“We’ve had an enthusiastic response from people in Letwell, and the students are really looking forward to performing at such a beautiful venue.”
