The event was at Shiloh’s new Masbrough headquarters, on Station Road, last Saturday.

Dozens of people enjoyed tea, cake and live music, as well as old-time dance tuition from community group RotherHop.

A total of £295 was raised for the Mayor’s charities.

Shiloh chairman John McDonnell welcomed the Mayor and her consort, Mr Pat Keenan, to the party at Shiloh @ The Weighbridge.

John said: “It was a very good turnout.

“There was a lot of interest in the activities and many people got into the theme.

“We had tremendous support from people supplying cakes, which were very nicely decorated.”

The event also featured a vintage market and a Guess Grandad’s Fortune game, with players guessing the value of small change in a shopping bag.

The amount in the bulging bag - a total of £65 - was also donated to charity by its owner Edward Copeman, John’s late father-in-law.

Formerly a garage, the tea party venue was converted with a kitchen and dining area, opening in May.

Volunteers and staff at the building provide meals and support for the borough’s homeless.

John added: “This was our first community event in our new premises - hopefully the first of many.

Rotherham Borough Council has put a lot of money and effort into converting it for us.

“We want to say thank you by sharing this great facility with the community.”
