Charities share beer festival's £35,000 donation

GLASSES were raised in celebration as charities welcomed a £35,000 windfall from the proceeds of Rotherham’s biggest party.

Five charities will share the bumper profits from the four-day Rotherham Real Ale and Music Festival at Magna in February.

Representatives from Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, Rotherham Hospice, SAFE@LAST, the Magna Trust and Weston Park Hospital headed back to the science centre to herald the success of the 2011 event and find out details of next year’s festival, which will be held at Magna from February 29 until March 3.

The record £35,000 total was raised after 10,000 visitors packed into Magna to celebrate the White Rose Festival, which saw 230 real ales from Britain’s White Rose counties come together for the first time.

Festival organiser Stephen Burns presented a cheque for £7,000 to each of the five benefiting charities.

Tickets for the 2012 event are now on sale at www.magnarealale.co.uk where information can be found on how to volunteer or offer sponsorship.
