But the Churches Conservation Trust says it hopes the Easter opening will people to get in touch with the building’s history.

The church contains a monument to Sir Thomas Wentworth, a loyal servant of the Crown, but a victim of political intrigue, who was executed by Charles I.

Lloyd Grossman, Chairman of the Churches Conservation Trust, said of the need to keep old churches open: “Not only are they national treasures they are also important community assets which can provide important spaces for everyone to enjoy and use.

“Our Easter openings offer a chance to rediscover and enjoy these ancient, special places.”

The church will be open over the Easter weekend—Saturday to Monday—from 1pm to 4pm.
