Cancer charity looking for Christmas helpers

IT’S still nearly three months to Christmas, but Marie Curie Cancer Care is already on the look out for festive fund-raisers.

The charity says ocal fundraisers and volunteers are already planning to make their 2011 Christmas campaign the most successful Christmas Collection Appeal yet and they want volunteers to help man collection dates across South Yorkshire during November and December.

Last year Christmas collections across South Yorkshire raised over £15,000, which funded over 750 hours of one-to-one Marie Curie home nursing care.

This year the charity has a record number of collections in the region to cover and say organisers say they are going to be in desperate need of extra volunteers t to help collect in a supermarkets.

Local fundraiser Liz Howlett said: “The reaction you get from the general public when you collect at Christmas is wonderful and it’s a fantastically rewarding way to spend just a couple of hours of your time.

“Every donation collected will help us provide even more hours of nursing care and now more than ever we need your support to ensure we are able to care for even more terminally ill patients in their own homes when they, and their families, need our support most.
