Call to back charity's "quackers" fundraiser

Sporting entertainment may be in short supply at the moment, but homelessness charity Roundabout is out to fill the gap by screening its virtual duck race over the internet.

The South Yorkshire charity said its fundraising and events programme had been badly affected by Coronavirus so the charity is hoping that everybody will take the plunge by supporting the crazy race – and be in with a chance to win one of 20 great prizes.

But you need to move fast, as ducks will go off sale at the end of tomorrow.

Pulp drummer Nick Banks will add star quality by commentating on the race.

Standard yellow ducks - which can be individually named - cost £2 each and participants can buy as many as they like, to the limit of ten in one transaction.

For an extra £1, competitors will also be able to change the colour of their ducks and add some funky headwear, making it even easier to track their progress online as the race progresses.

The race will be broadcast on Roundabout’s social media channels at 6pm next Thursday, July 23, with a series of heats before the leading ducks take their place on the final finish line.

“Coronavirus has hit all our fundraising plans for the next few months but the need to raise funds so we can continue to support vulnerable young does not diminish,” said Roundabout chief executive Ben Keegan.

“Our virtual duck race is a fantastic way to get the whole family involved in supporting a great cause.”
