Brother and sister duo in final of dance contest

A YOUNG dancing duo from Rotherham are through to the final of a holiday company’s first national talent competition for ten years—despite having just a few hours to put together their routine.

Rachael Chedgzoy (18), and her brother Grant (12), of Parkgate, beat off strong competition to win a round of the contest held at Haven Holidays' Golden Sands Holiday Park on the Lincolnshire coast.

Rachael said: "We found out about the competition when we were there on holiday and decided to enter.

“Luckily, I remembered we had a dance CD in the car and we worked out a dance."

The pair, who have never danced together before, now go through to the grand finals of Haven's Got Talent Summer Special which will be held at Primrose Valley Holiday Park near Scarborough in October.

They were on a week's holiday at Golden Sands with parents Jayne and Dean  and brothers and sisters when they decided to enter.

And after getting through auditions judged by Haven's FunStars entertainment team, they performed in front of hundreds of holidaymakers as part of the main entertainment programme of the evening.

Rachael, who is studying performing arts at Rotherham Arts and Technology College, is a member of the NLSPA stage school, which produced the dance team Ice, who reached the semi final of TV's Britain's Got Talent.

Grant is also a keen dancer and is a member of the Freespirit Dance School in Rotherham.

Mum Jayne said: "Although they have done a lot of dancing, this was the first time they had danced together and they worked out a routine very quickly.

“They're both going to the final and plan to work out a complete new routine which will be really stunning."

Special talent contests for children aged 12 and over were held at ten Haven holiday parks during school summer holidays with the winners given a free holiday to attend the grand finals in October when they will be judged by a celebrity panel including West End star Paul Nicholas and experienced entertainer and presenter Mark Ritchie, representing The Stage.

A top prize of £1,000 is up for grabs in the grand final.
