Beauty queen Alexia follows Miss Advertiser mum's footsteps

ASPIRING teenage model Alexia Leary is proving to be a chip off the old block by entering a national beauty contest 26 years after her mum was crowned Miss Rotherham Advertiser.

Alexia reached the public voting stage of Miss Teen Queen UK after scouts dragged her from the crowd at the Clothes Show Live at the Birmingham NEC last December.

Now she is hoping to attract votes to help her progress to the next round and put her in with a chance of winning a trip to an international beauty pageant.

For mum Caroline her daughter’s bid for beauty success has proved a real blast from the past.

Caroline, of Broom, said: “Back in 1985 I was crowned Miss Rotherham Advertiser and I had a great time so I’m hopeful that Alexia can have the same success.”

Caroline (45) is now an ambulance driver but she still remembers her days as Rotherham’s top beauty fondly.

She added: “I went to all kinds of events with the Advertiser.

“The most famous public figure I met was probably Red Rum at Doncaster Race Course.

“I had a few fans. One man in particular turned up at all the Advertiser events asking for my autograph, but it never got weird.”

Alexia (17) has already had a small taste of life as a model.

She headed to London for a photo shoot with Miss Teen Queen UK a fortnight ago after judges selected her as one of the competition’s finalists.

The Rotherham College of Arts and Technology beauty therapy student said: “It was a really different experience. I enjoyed it and the pictures are great.

“I never considered being a model before but now I really want to get as far as I can in the competition. All I need is for people to vote for me.”
