Vicky Hilton, who is based at the Old Market Gallery and launched the Sorting Office hub for creative artists and small businesses under the town centre bar 1915, has scooped a residency with Walk the Plank.

She will spent a month working three days a week on art projects in Dewsbury.

“I am so pleased because I will be working with some of the best artists in the country,” Vicky said.

“It’s a really big deal for me as they are doing amazing work.

“To be honest I had forgotten I’d applied for it and then the letter came through to say I’d got it.

“I can bring back what I learn to help with what I’m trying to do in Rotherham and hopefully it will make people realise I’m pretty serious about what I’m doing here.”

Beer giant Carling recently carried out filming for a documentary at the SortingOffice arts hub after the artists’ haven won funding in a national competition.

Vicky said the £6,000 prize money from Carling’s We Got This community campaign would be used to set up a new printing studio which will be open to the public.

She said she also aimed to push on with plans for an exchange programme which will see Rotherham artists’ work displayed in Sheffield and vice versa but this was dependent on attracting fresh funding.
