Artist invites public to International Women's Day workshop

ARTISTS will mark International Women’s Day next week by creating an unique piece of work — and they want you to join in.

ROAR (Rotherham Open Arts Renaissance) and artist Toni Buckby will produce an interactive textile piece at the indoor market in Rotherham town centre from next Tuesday to Friday.

It will involve weaving yarns, threads, wire, LEDs, displays, speakers and touch sensitive components into a large woven fabric.

Next Thursday, there will be two short workshops — from 10am to noon and 1pm to 3pm —  weaving “small touch sensitive pieces” using mini-frame looms designed by Toni as part of The Interlace Project.

All materials will be provided and the loom is yours to take home.

Toni works with textiles and interactive digital technologies, focusing on the crossover of traditional craft practices, computing and electronics.

Her work explores the process of making, the creative integration of experimental technologies with traditional textile techniques and the mathematics of pattern.

Visit ROAR’s Facebook page for details of how to book onto the workshops, for which places are very limited.
