PUB lovers were united in dismay after a village’s only pub closed its doors.

The Bay Horse in Scholes closed on June 1.

A message on the pub’s Facebook page said: “To make you all aware, the Bay Horse pub will be closed for the foreseeable future.

“Darren and the team are fit and well.

“We will update further in the near future and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Visitors to the pub’s Facebook page expressed surprise and disappointment at the news.

Bethany Rooney said: “This is such a shame. Our favourite country pub.”

Wez Milly added: “I would like to find out the reason for closure and try resurrect it — we are gutted.”

Linda Miller said: “Hope everything is ok and pub back open soon. Such a shame it is shut.”

A spokeswoman from pub owners Ei Publican Partnerships confirmed the closure and appealed for potential publicans to get in touch.

“We can confirm that the Bay Horse, Rotherham is currently closed,” she said.

“If anyone is interested in taking on this community pub, or want further information, please call our recruitment hotline on Tel: 03333 200036.”
