Amarillo cheer for care home residents

CARE HOME workers teamed up to recreate Peter Kay’s classic Amarillo video.

The workers at Astrum House in Moorgate were filmed marching through the home in time to Tony Christie’s classic track.

Kirsty Watts, who works as an enabler at the home, said filming the video clad in their protective aprons and face masks had done wonders for morale.

“During the current climate, as you can appreciate, staff morale was extremely low due to fear and uncertainty which most care workers will be feeling across the nation,” she said.

“We needed a boost and getting the majority of staff involved in making the video proved to be beneficial mentally and emotionally.

“We all did our own take on it and it came together lovely.”

Kirsty said Astrum House was a rehabilitation home with residents aged between 18 and 80 and both staff and clients had received the utmost care and protection to keep them safe during this pandemic, with the home so far Covid-19-free.

She added: “The work ethic is very professional and the teamwork is impeccable.

“We have shared the video across social media and the feedback has been amazing. It’s very humbling to have people we don’t know praise the work we are doing.

“Our aim was to do something we enjoyed doing and make people smile during this frightening time and we certainly did that.”
