Am dram is back at the Civic with a classic

KOOKY, cult classic Little Shop of Horrors will mark the return of amateur dramatics to the Rotherham Civic next week.

The 1960s musical tells the story of Seymour Krelborn, an assistant at Mushnik’s Flower Shop in downtrodden Skid Row, who becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers a strange and exotic plant.

In order to impress glamorous Audrey, the shop assistant he’s secretly in love with, he names it Audrey Two.

But Audrey Two has a mind of its own and soon grows into a bad-tempered carnivore with an appetite that can’t be satisfied and a soulful R&B voice.

Seymour must keep the meals coming to stop his prized plant from wilting, but how far is he willing to go to get the girl of his dreams?

The sci-fi horror musical features an electrifying pop/rock score by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman.

The show will open at the Civic on Tuesday (14) for a five-night run plus Saturday matinee by RTSA, after it was postponed in March 2020.
