A glamorous day at Royal Anston

Fundraiser Chris Snee marked this year’s Royal Ascot Festival by bringing back her Ladies Day event to the village cricket club after a pandemic-enforced break.

A crowd of guests in their finery enjoyed live streaming of the prestigious horse races from the renowned Ascot sporting showcase and helped to raise a much-needed £1,700 for the Breast Cancer Now charity through a raffle and other donations.

Chris said the event was also an important platform for raising awareness and getting guests thinking about the signs of breast cancer.

“The idea for this event came from attending a Royal Ascot Ladies Day with my friend Louise Prince at St Joseph’s Church in Worksop, where a group of lady parishioners had been running their own event for more than 25 years to contribute to buying essential items for the church,” she said.

“I enjoyed it so much I thought it would be fun to do my own version.

“Sadly, St Joseph’s Royal Ascot Ladies Day is no more, as most of the ladies are no longer with us, but I feel honoured to be keeping their tradition alive.”

Chris has branched out in her charity work by placing a bra collection tub in Dinnington Resource Centre to support another charity, Against Breast Cancer.
