ROTHERHAM Titans maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a gritty win over Hull at Clifton Lane.
Trailing 5-3 at half time and then 12-3 early in the second half, Titans came back to prevail 20-15 against the team with the tightest defence in the league, thanks to tries from Callum Bustin and Harry Newborn and ten points from the boot of Lloyd Hayes.
Head coach Steve Salvin said: “Great as it is to win, I honestly think if we hadn’t won that game I’d have gone home nearly as proud as I will tonight because of the sheer effort and heart we put in.
“Hull are by far the best defensive team in the league and that showed today. The tough thing when you defend phase after phase is that it batters your body.
“They defended for such a long period it got to the stage their tanks were empty. I’m not suggesting for a second they stopped trying but it proved to be right.”
The victory keeps Rotherham third in National Two North, now a point behind Hull and five behind leaders Sedgley Park with a game in hand on both.
Titans have a two-week break before their next match away to Chester on November 13.
