MORE than 200 scooters roared into town in a noisy tribute to Lambretta lover Danny Dix.

Three Counties Scooter Group members decided to organise a fitting salute to the 38-year-old, who died after being attacked in Rotherham town centre last month.

Rotherham United fan Danny (below) was walking home from watching his heroes’ televised match against Sheffield United when he was assaulted in Bridgegate.

Scooter riders from all over South Yorkshire and beyond descended on the Cutler’s Arms in Westgate last Wednesday night’s rally, where special patches featuring pictures of Danny on his prized two-wheeled transport were on sale.

Members of Danny’s family were guests of honour at the event, which also saw the launch of a special new ale called Dixie Rock N Roll Star beer, which Chantry Brewery has produced in memory of the dad-of-one, whom friends said was a huge Oasis fan.

Raffle prizes included a signed football, a framed shot from classic scooter film Quadrophenia and a Mod-themed canvas.

A series of fundraising events have been organised to fund Munsbrough dad Danny’s funeral and support his young daughter Freya, with the next being a charity football match at The Grange in Kimberworth from 1pm next Saturday (13).

Five people have been arrested and released on bail or under investigation in connection with the incident on March 9.
