School closed for two days due to norovirus outbreak

AN OUTBREAK of the winter vomiting bug, norovirus, has caused a junior school to close for two days.

Brampton Ellis Primary in West Melton said a “significant number” of children were off school with flu-like symptoms and sickness.

A school statement said: “After consultation with Public Health England, school governors and the Trust CEO, as well as close monitoring of the escalating situation, the school has decided to close for the next two days in order to deep clean both sites and prevent further spread of infection.

“All after school clubs for Thursday and Friday are cancelled. School will be open as usual on Monday, December 2.

“We apologise for the inevitable inconvenience this will cause.”

Rotherham Council has been contacted for a comment.

Public Health England said it was aware of the norovirus outbreak in Yorkshire. More information on the bug can be found here.
