A MAN who died after being seriously assaulted in Bradgate has been named by police.

John Methley (39) was found lying unconscious with life-threatening injuries on Midland Road, at the junction with Garden Street, at around 6.25pm on February 4.

Mr Methley died at Sheffield’s Royal Hallamshire Hospital on February 10.

A police spokeswoman said a post-mortem examination concluded he died as a result of a head injury. 

Mr Methley's family said in a statement: “The entire family are grieving for John and we’d ask that the people responsible for John’s death hand themselves into police. 

“We want anyone with information about John’s death to please contact the police.” 

His family has chosen not to release a picture of Mr Methley at this time. 

Detectives investigating Mr Methley’s death remain keen to hear from anyone with information, and in particular anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area mentioned on the night of February 4, or from any person who has information about the assault on Mr Methley.

Three men, aged 18, 19 and 37, arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following the incident remain on police bail. 

Mr Mark Beresford, Assistant Doncaster Coroner, opened and adjourned an inquest into his death this morning (Friday) at Doncaster Crown Court until July 29.
