THE JURY in the trial of a daycare centre manager accused of neglect has been discharged after a juror was forced to self-isolate.
The trial of Barbara Sykes, former manager of the Reach Day Centre in Clifton, and her ex-colleague Julie Paul-Slack, will have to be restarted.
Sheffield Crown Court heard one of the 12 jurors had taken a Covid-19 test and while this had come back negative, they had been told to self-isolate for 14 days.
A new jury will be sworn in and the case is due to begin again today.
Sykes (64), of Church Street, Rawmarsh, is accused of neglecting ten clients aged between 18 and 66.
She denies eight counts of ill treatment of a person by a care worker and three counts of ill treatment of a person lacking mental capacity.
Paul-Slack (56), of Middle Lane, Clifton, denies ill treatment of a person lacking mental capacity and wilful neglect of a person lacking mental capacity.
