ELECTION 2015: UKIP snatch three council seats in Rotherham

UKIP swelled its opposition numbers on Rotherham Borough Council, gaining three seats, but Labour took the other 19 spots up for grabs.

Last year, UKIP gained nine seats and held one as it emerged as Rotherham's biggest opposition party for years.

And this time around, the party won three new spots in the Council Chamber by taking two from Labour - Hellaby and Keppel - and the Sitwell seat from the Conservatives.

The dominant Labour group, which has been dogged for three years by Rotherham's child sex abuse scandal, held or gained the remaining 19 seats up for grabs.

It followed a clean sweep of three Parliamentary seats for Labour in the general election results announced in the early hours of the morning.

  • It is a shame that some people in disgraced Rotherham are still voting for Labour. It really IS a time to CHANGE Rotherham's image - we don't need an expensive PR company for that (although everyone can help) JUST get RID of Labour
