COVID inpatient numbers at Rotherham Hospital have fallen for the first time in weeks — but the borough’s infection rates are still rising.
Rotherham Hospital was treating 57 patients who had tested positive for the virus as of Wednesday — down 17 from the previous week.
The hospital was said to have the highest proportion in the country for beds occupied by Covid-positive patients — 17 per cent — but just two patients with the virus in critical care.
Since the start of the pandemic, 3,070 have been treated at the hospital for Covid-19 and 643 have died.
The infection rate in the community has risen, meanwhile, to 440.8 per 100,000 in the week up to last Thursday — and still remains above the UK average of 373.7.
