A FESTIVE fundraiser who brought joys to families with his spectacular Christmas lights display rang up a record total for charity.
Martin Smith’s annual makeover of his Swinton garden raises thousands for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice — and his latest colourful collection brought in more donations than ever.
Martin’s wife Hazel called this year’s total “fantastic” after the couple totted up the takings and found they had collected £4,219, which was more than £1,400 higher than the previous year.

“We had people queuing to come into the garden but they were keeping spaced out,” she said. “They were waiting patiently for someone else to have a look around the garden before taking their turn.”
Asked why she thought the total raised was so high, she said: “I think people came here because there weren’t many other places they could go out so they brought their children to see our lights.
“We are so grateful to everyone for their generosity.
“We’ve have been touched by the lovely cards people have put through the letterbox thanking us, too.”
