SHELL-shocked Thomas Cook staff took a break from their worries for a free night out at the bingo.
Buzz Bingo invited more than 20 staff from the Meadowhall branch of the travel company — many of them from Rotherham — for an evening’s fun and games at their Dalton bingo hall.
Grateful Donna Bailey, who worked in the store’s management team, said the Tuesday night treat had come as a boost after Thomas Cook went out of business suddenly last week.
“They put something on their website telling anyone who worked for Thomas Cook they could come and have a game on them,” she said.
“When we arrived, they greeted us and led us to an area where there was buck’s fizz and gave us a drink.
“Then they brought us food platters during their break.
“We had a great night and a few of us had a win, too.
“The staff were lovely and really kind to us.
“We thought it was a lovely gesture.”
Donna, who had worked for Thomas Cook for almost 20 years, said affected employees had been benefited from several moments of kindness, including offers to have their hair and nails done for interviews and donations of food from Morrisons.
A spokesperson for Buzz Bingo said: “We are so happy to have given the team from Thomas Cook a great night out on us. We hope you had a fabulous night, ladies, and had a win.”
