Wildlife campaigners are inviting people in South Yorkshire to dig and develop a pond on their land – and offering to foot the bill.
The project is being led by Wildscapes CIC, who are aiming to create new ponds and restore neglected ones and help boost the population of threatened newt species.
Those coming forward up will not be asked to contribute financially but are expected to carry out “basic measures” to protect the habitat quality of the pond.
Maintenance and monitoring visits on a period basis over the next 25 years are also included in the project.
