Plans to convert former pub at Swinton into housing

LMC Yorkshire’s proposals for the Kings Head on Rockingham Road follow the closure of the venue last year.
The project would involve demolishing existing extensions and building new ones, according to plans sent to Rotherham Council.

A supporting statement from Bsmart Homes says: “During recent years, pubs have faced increasing challenges to the sustaining of trading performances resulting from the financial crisis, the recession, Covid-19 and changing social behaviours.
“These forces have acted together to reduce the frequency of pub visits and increased the pressures on discretionary personal expenditure, which obviously includes spending in public houses.
“Swinton is more than adequately supplied with public houses, which have a variety of different styles of presentation and facilities.”
The Kings Head had been created from a row of residential cottages in about 1885.
RMBC’s planning department will decide on the plans on a date to be fixed.
