HEALTH trust staff “rose” to the occasion to celebrate the NHS’s 75th birthday – by planting 75 trees and rosebushes on community and hospital sites.

Staff members, patients, volunteers and governors from across Rotherham, Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust took part in the special event planting a mix of trees and rosebushes – named the Nye Bevan rose in memory of NHS founder Aneurin Bevan.

Planting took place across RDaSH sites including two trees and 20 rosebushes at Swallownest Court adult mental health services.

RDaSH chief executive Toby Lewis said: “We wanted to mark this special occasion by doing something that will grow and last for, we would hope, many, many years.

“We hope to capture the hopes of our volunteers for the future of local healthcare, while we go about improving our gardens and woodland.”

Thanking staff for their participation, he added of the specially named rose: “It is brilliant to have found this connection back to Nye Bevan.”
