A HOSPITAL trust is holding elections to appoint representatives to its council of governors - with time running out to submit nominations.

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals (DBTH), which runs Montagu Hospital in Mexborough, Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Bassetlaw Hospital, is encouraging local people to continue to support the NHS throughout the Covid-19 pandemic and lend their voice as a public governor.

There are two seats up for grabs in the Doncaster area, three on offer in Bassetlaw and a further two posts for the rest of England and Wales.

And the deadline is the end of today, Monday, July 20, to step forward.

Suzy Brain England, chair of the board at the trust, said: “Whilst the last few months have been challenging for the NHS, here in Doncaster and Bassetlaw, we have been uplifted by an inspiring community spirit and a desire from residents to help their local hospitals.”

Governors represent the public and can influence how their local hospitals make plans to improve and develop services.

Anyone interested in becoming a public governor is asked to submit their nomination before 5pm today.

Governors are required to attend four meetings a year (which are currently being held virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic) but their role is much more than those commitments.

All necessary training is also provided. If you are interested in being a governor, call 01302 644157 or email [email protected].
