Joint blitz on fraud

SOUTH Yorkshire Police has linked up with the county’s three other forces to provide a new way for the public to report fraud.

Action Fraud is the new point of contact for victims of scams and con artists. Around 1,000 such crimes are reported a year in South Yorkshire.

Det Supt Steve Waite, head of intelligence for regional operations, said: “This will enable a better sharing of information about the nature and extent of fraud across the region and beyond.

Graham Wragg, the force’s Economic Crime Unit manager, added: “We will be able to analyse fraud offences and those who perpetrate it across the country rather than just locally.

“Where there are viable leads of enquiry, Action Fraud will task the relevant law enforcement agency to investigate.

“Where the offenders are present at the scene and fraud is being perpetrated, police will always respond and victims should ring 999.”
