Millers bow to Boro

TEN-MAN Rotherham United’s five-match unbeaten run was ended by Middlesbrough at the New York Stadium.

Two goals in the opening 20 minutes set the visitors on the way to a 3-0 victory, with a straight red card for early substitute Jordan Bowery hampering comeback attempts.

One-time Rotherham target Patrick Bamford fired in on the turn to open the scoring and Yanick Wildschut doubled the advantage when he shot high past Adam Collin.

Bowery had been on the field only a few minutes for the injured Alex Revell when he reacted to a challenge from George Friend and was sent off, much to the anger of the home bench.

That left the Millers to play an hour with ten men and although they were lucky not to conceded a couple more before half time, they made more of a game of it in the second half.

Lee Frecklington forced a good save from Dimitrios Konstantopoulos and sub Matt Derbyshire missed a great opportunity to set up a grandstand when he hit the post from close range.

Three minutes from time, Boro substitute Lee Tomlin fired in to put the issue well and truly beyond doubt.
