Fire crews’ busy weekend

FIRE crews fought several deliberate and accidental fires over the weekend.

Two teams from Aston and Maltby tackled a burning outbuilding on a vacant property at Leicester Road, Dinnington.

They attended at around 2.10pm on Saturday, coming away around 40 minutes later.

The fire is thought to have been started deliberately.

One crew from Rotherham station attended a car fire on Fenton Croft, Kimberworth at around 11pm on Saturday.

Firefighters spent about an hour putting out the fire, which is thought to have been started deliberately.

Two appliances from Rotherham and Darnall tacked a “severe” house fire on Grosvenor Road, Eastwood last night.

They arrived at around 9.30pm, spending around two hours putting out the blaze.

One female resident met crews in the doorway as they arrived, saying that the boiler hat caught fire.

Investigations have since found that the fire originated at an electricity meter. A fire service spokesman said that the lower floor of the house had been “badly damaged”.

No injuries or other damage were reported.
