Rotherham credit union celebrate 10 years of low-cost loans

A CREDIT union which has provided loans and savings accounts to 3,000 people will celebrate turning ten later next week.

LASER Credit Union is holding a party to mark its milestone in Rotherham next Friday.

LASER offers an alternative to the big banks, as it operates on a not-for-profit basis, and is therefore able to offer low cost loans to members, as well as saving schemes with competitive returns.

“Our staff are able to provide the practical, reliable and friendly support that people need.”

The celebration, which will take place at LASER’s offices at the Old Town Hall in Howard Street between 10am and 12.30pm, will be attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Rotherham, as well as the outgoing board chairman, the Rev Geoffrey Mills, who recently stepped down after leading LASER through the first ten years.

Janet Wadsworth, the incoming chairmain, said: “LASER Credit Union has been supporting people in Rotherham for ten years, and I hope everyone who supports the not-for-profit principles that underpin LASER will join us at our anniversary celebrations, and wish us well for the next decade.”
