Evans is the man, says chairman

CHAIRMAN Tony Stewart believes Rotherham United have found the right man to take them forward.

Crawley Town chief Steve Evans beat off competition from a strong field to become Andy Scott's successor yesterday, penning a three-year contract.

Stewart said: "When we interviewed him, we felt he had the passion, the drive and lots of motivation and we were infected by that.

"This guy knows what he wants and he goes for it. He takes his football seriously. What he has achieved at Crawley has been incredible. He gets results and he is the man to do it."

Evans leaves Crawley after guiding them back to the Football League and into the higher echelons of League Two.

"It's a massive challenge," he said. "You only have to look at the vision of the chairman and the vision of the board to see where they want to take the football club. If it wasn't for that then I wouldn't be here. I'm ambitious myself and I'm really looking forward to it."

He'll take the team to Shrewsbury on Saturday with the Millers trailing the League Two play-offs by four points with four games to go.

Yesterday's 1-0 win over Cheltenham, courtesy of Ryan Cresswell's injury-time goal, was their fourth win in five under caretaker boss Darren Patterson.

"I've really enjoyed my time in charge," said Patterson. "It's been nice to get the victories and the points and now I hope the team can go on."
